STEM CELL THERAPY
Stem cell therapy has been around for quite some time, but is now more readily available. Current use of stem cells involves collecting a tissue sample from your cat (either fat or a small amount of bone marrow) and separating out your own cat's cells to be used. There are many potential uses for stem cell therapy - some of the most studied include stomatitis cats that have failed to respond to full mouth extractions and other medical therapies, intestinal disease, allergic airway disease. Stem cell therapy cannot be used in cats with cancer. The therapy itself can require multiple treatment sessions, and is still quite expensive. However, for cats that have few other options, it provides us another way of providing non-traditional care.
