Clinical Trial Announcement
Study to evaluate the effect and safety of Onsior® in cats with chronic musculoskeletal disorder What we are looking for: Cats of any breed or sex, older than one year, weighing between 5.5 and 26.4 lbs with radiographic evidence of degenerative joint disease in at least two painful joints
About the study: Chronic musculoskeletal disorder (CMSD) is relatively frequent in older cats and includes joint osteoarthritis (OA), spinal disorders, and post-traumatic disorders e.g. after a fracture. Robenacoxib (trade name Onsior®) is analgesic and anti-inflammatory in cats and therefore may be useful in cases of CMSD. The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an analgesic drug (Onsior®) in cats with chronic musculoskeletal disorder.
What does the study involve?
Each animal that qualifies for the study will receive a baseline evaluation, which includes the following: orthopedic examination by a board-certified veterinary surgeon, radiographs (x-rays) of the affected joint, and an activity monitor. In addition, blood will be collected for lab work (CBC and chemistry profile) along with urine for urinalysis. Placebo will be prescribed for the initial 14 days. Cats will then be randomly assigned to receive two treatments of either placebo, Onsior®, or both. Owners will be blinded from the identity of the treatment prescribed. Treatment periods will be 21 days, after which owners will return with their cats for a follow up appointment, which will include a repeat bloodwork and urinalysis as well as physical and orthopedic exams. Owners will be asked to fill out brief questionnaires about their cat’s well being. All procedures described above will be paid for by the study. Contact information: If you have a patient that you feel would be a good fit for this study, please contact Dr. Steve Budsberg (email@example.com) or Gabriella Sandberg (firstname.lastname@example.org).
